Anniversary Trip 2011: Day 1

Day 1: Friday, September 2nd

We weren't going to take an anniversary trip this year due to our house still being on the market (keep praying...harder!), but I looked at our vacation savings and we had enough to do a little something, plus I think we needed a vaca!  My idea of vacation is definitely beach and sun; however, I decided to keep our trip a little secret from Bobby and book a short trip to Denver, Colorado (he's been wanting to go back since our 24 hour stay there last summer).  Ideally, I would have booked a trip to the Caribbean but it just wasn't in the budget this year since we had stopped contributing to our vacation fund before we had Natalie and while I was on maternity leave.

I had decided that we could take Natalie, but that if my parents would take her it may make the trip a little easier, even though we would miss her like crazy!  Of course, they agreed to watch her and actually planned a trip to Tennessee to see my grandparents (Natalie's great-grandparents). Bobby seriously thought we were going to Tennessee with my parents, sister, and brother-in-law until the week before we were leaving and he unfortunately saw a Denver map on my computer I had unintentionally left open.

I was kind of surprised that I didn't cry when Matt dropped us off at the airport and we weren't going to see Natalie in 4 days, but I knew she was in good hands so I was not worried one bit!  As we departed Indy for Denver, Natalie headed down with Matt and Amanda, plus Rusty and Petunia down to Tennessee to meet my parents at our grandparents house. Luckily, everyone did great in the car and they made it down there safely.

We arrived in Denver at 8:35p (their time) on Friday night, got our luggage and got our rental car (after way too much upselling, which we did not partake in and much disorganization on Budget's part). Once we checked into the hotel, we headed to the hotel bar to have some drinks and food (expensive but good).  We stayed at the Embassy Suites Downtown Denver, which was a very pretty hotel (loved their color schemes) and great views, plus the most awesome hotel breakfast I have ever eaten: Omelet Station, potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, pancakes, fresh fruit, pastries, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt...I could go on and on. The breakfast was included, which was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel.

View from our bedroom window...can't tell that well in a picture, but the Rocky Mountains are in the background.

Pretty and serene water feature in the lobby leading to the restaurant
