Brodzinski Family Reunion 2013

Sunday was our annual Brodzinski Family Reunion.

It was a perfect day to have it because it wasn't too hot, just a great summer day filled with food, swimming, roasted corn, a penny scramble, and socializing.

A little history on the penny scramble...I have no idea when it was officially started, but all of us cousins sure remember spending what felt like hours in sawdust finding loose change. It was definitely a highlight as kids! We haven't had very many kids in the past years, but this year we felt like we had enough to do it. Most of the kids had fun doing it, as well as a few of us adults, including Walt. My great uncle Walt has disabilities, but his memory is as sharp as a tack and although his mobility is limited, that didn't stop him having helping getting down into the sawdust to find some loose change as well. When I was a kid, he would be the "clean-up" person who would sit again for what seemed like hours, sifting through the sawdust when us kids were too bored and thought we found enough change. He loved it, and this year it was so awesome to see him down in the sawdust, right there with us and with my daughter as well. How special that Natalie got to share this childhood memory with not only me but her great-great uncle!  Although he needed a little help because of some vision problems, he managed to probably find as much money or more than any of us!

Natalie is pretty much swimming on her own...with a floatie vest of course!  This weekend she also was diving down to the bottom (with help) to get 8 little toys that sink to the bottom...she did that at least 4 different times! Fearless!
